Why you can only paste the last thing you copied
Your computer has one clipboard. It holds one item. When you copy something new, it overwrites the last one. This design dates back to the first graphical computers, and most systems still work this way unless you turn on a history feature or add a clipboard manager.

The problem with built-in copy history
Each of these tools is helpful for the last few minutes. They all share three gaps:
- They forget. A short list, a time limit, or a restart clears them.
- You cannot search most of them. Scrolling through a list to find "that link from Tuesday" is slow.
- Each device has its own. Your work PC, your laptop and your phone do not share a history.
A copy paste history that keeps everything
Clipboard History Pro is a free browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. It saves the text you copy and keeps it until you delete it.
- Unlimited history on the free plan.
- Search by any word in the item.
- One click to copy an old item back, then paste as usual.
- Favorites and tags to keep the items you reuse in order.
- Text shortcuts: give an item a short code and type it to paste the full text. 5 free, unlimited on Pro.
- Pro sync to share the history between computers and the iPhone and Android apps.
In Chrome, it also saves text you copy in other apps while Chrome is running.

How to recover something you already copied
A clipboard manager can only save what you copy after you install it. If you need something you copied earlier, try these first:
- Press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V in a blank document. If you have not copied anything since, it is still there.
- Open your OS clipboard history from the table above.
- Use Ctrl+Z in the app where you cut the text. Undo often brings back cut text.
- Check the app's own history: browser history for links, document version history, or sent messages.

Is a copy history safe?
A copy history can contain sensitive text, so it matters where it lives. Clipboard History Pro stores your history locally in your browser. It leaves your device only if you turn on Pro sync. You can delete single items, clear everything, or set items to delete after a time. Pro adds a passcode lock.

Frequently asked questions
How do I see my copy and paste history?
On Windows, press Win+V. On a Mac with macOS Tahoe, open Spotlight and press Cmd+4. On a Chromebook, press Search+V. In the browser on any computer, install a clipboard manager extension such as Clipboard History Pro.
Can I see things I copied days ago?
Only if something saved them. Built-in tools usually keep a short list or clear on restart. A clipboard manager keeps your history until you delete it.
