Does the iPhone have a clipboard history?
We could not find an Apple support page that describes a clipboard history for iOS, including iOS 26. The Mac got one in Spotlight with macOS Tahoe (see clipboard history on Mac), but the iPhone clipboard still holds a single item. When you copy something new, the old item is replaced.
How to see what is on your iPhone clipboard right now
- Open Notes (or any app with a text box).
- Touch and hold in the text area.
- Tap Paste.
That is the whole clipboard: one item. If an app asks to Allow Paste, that is iOS asking your permission before the app reads what you copied. In iOS settings, each app can be set to ask, allow or deny pasting from other apps.
Ways to keep what you copy on iPhone
1. Paste into a note
Low-tech, but it works. Keep a pinned note and paste things you want to keep. There is no automatic history and no search beyond Notes search.
2. Universal Clipboard (Apple devices only)
If you have a Mac or iPad signed in to the same Apple Account, Universal Clipboard lets you copy on one device and paste on another nearby. It moves one item, it does not keep a history, and it does not reach Windows PCs or Chromebooks.
3. A clipboard app that syncs with your computer
Clipboard History Pro is a clipboard manager for Chrome, Edge and Firefox on your computer. Its companion app, Clipboard History Mobile on the App Store, syncs clipboard text between your iPhone and the extension (requires iOS 12.1 or later and a Pro plan).
This is useful when your day is split between a phone and a computer that is not a Mac: copy a link on the iPhone, find it in your clipboard history on a Windows PC; copy an address in Chrome, open it on your phone.
How to set it up
- Install Clipboard History Pro on your computer: Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
- Start Pro. Every plan has a 14-day free trial, then $5.99 a month or $60 a year.
- Turn on cloud sync in the extension and sign in.
- Install Clipboard History Mobile on your iPhone and sign in with the same account.
Because iOS asks before apps read the clipboard, you may see the Allow Paste prompt in the app. That is expected; it is iOS protecting you.
Install the extension, then sync your iPhone
Also on Microsoft Edge and Firefox. Free plan: unlimited clipboard history, search, favorites and 5 text shortcuts. Pro has a 14-day free trial.
What you get on the computer side
- An unlimited history of everything you copy in the browser, free.
- Search, favorites and tags.
- A text expander: type a short shortcut and it expands to the full text in any web form.
- On Pro: phone sync, a passcode lock, floating mode and a page widget.

Honest limits
- The iPhone app syncs text. It does not turn iOS into a system with a full clipboard history.
- Chrome and Safari on iPhone do not run desktop extensions, so the extension itself runs on your computer, not your phone.
- Phone sync is a Pro feature. The free plan covers the computer only.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my clipboard history on iPhone?
Apple does not document a clipboard history for iPhone. The clipboard holds one item, which you can see by pasting into Notes. To keep more than one item, use a clipboard app or paste items into a note.
Why does my iPhone ask me to Allow Paste?
iOS asks for permission before an app reads what you copied from another app. You can change this per app in Settings.
Can I sync my iPhone clipboard with a Windows PC?
Yes, with Clipboard History Pro Pro. Install the extension in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on the PC and the Clipboard History Mobile app on the iPhone, then sign in to both.
Is the Clipboard History Mobile app free?
The app is free to download. Syncing with the browser extension needs a Clipboard History Pro Pro plan, which has a 14-day free trial.
