How to see your clipboard history on Android

Android itself has no single clipboard history screen. The history lives in your keyboard app. Here is where to find it in Gboard and Samsung Keyboard, why items disappear, and how to get them onto your computer.

Gboard (Google's keyboard)

Gboard is the default keyboard on Pixel phones and many other Android phones. To see what you copied:

  1. Open any app where you can type, and tap a text box so the keyboard opens.
  2. Tap the Clipboard icon in the row above the keys. If you do not see it, tap the four-square menu icon to find it.
  3. If the clipboard is off, turn it on.
  4. Tap an item to paste it.

Pin what you want to keep. Touch and hold an item, then tap Pin. Google's Gboard help page says unpinned history is cleared shortly after you last use it, while pinned items stay. Inside the app, Gboard states that unpinned clips are deleted after 1 hour.

Samsung Keyboard (Galaxy phones)

Samsung Keyboard has its own clipboard. Open the keyboard, then tap the clipboard icon in the toolbar above the keys (open the toolbar menu if it is hidden). You can paste, pin or delete items from there. The exact layout changes between One UI versions.

Other keyboards

Many third-party keyboards have a clipboard panel too. If yours does not, switching to Gboard is the quickest way to get one.

Why your Android clipboard history disappears

Get your phone clipboard on your computer, and back

A common reason to look for clipboard history on Android is moving text between phone and computer: a code from an SMS, an address, a link. Chrome on Android does not support extensions, so a browser extension cannot add history on the phone itself. What it can do is sync.

Clipboard History Pro is a clipboard manager for Chrome, Edge and Firefox on your computer. With Pro, the companion Clipboard History Mobile app on Google Play syncs clipboard text between your Android phone and the extension. Copy on one, find it in the history on the other.

How to set it up:

  1. Install Clipboard History Pro in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on your computer. The free plan is enough to start.
  2. Start Pro. Every plan has a 14-day free trial.
  3. Turn on cloud sync in the extension and sign in.
  4. Install Clipboard History Mobile from Google Play and sign in with the same account.

On the computer side you also get an unlimited, searchable history, favorites, tags, and a text expander. See everything the extension does and Free vs Pro pricing.
