Admin guide: Clipboard History Pro on managed Chromebooks
Extension ID: ajiejmhbejpdgkkigpddefnjmgcbkenk Needs: Chrome 88+ (Manifest V3)
What it is
A clipboard history (search, favorites, tags; up to 50,000 text items by default) and a text expander (type a keyword, get a full paragraph). The built-in ChromeOS clipboard menu keeps 5 items, has no search and clears on restart. Teachers use Clipboard History Pro for feedback comments, rubric lines and parent emails.
Force-install or allow it
- Google Admin console: Menu > Devices > Chrome > Apps & extensions > Users & browsers.
- Select the organizational unit or group (start with Staff).
- Add > Add Chrome app or extension by ID. Enter the ID. Save. (Or Add from Chrome Web Store and search for the name.)
- Select the extension. Installation policy: Force install + pin to browser toolbar, Force install, or Allow install.
- Save (or Override for a child unit).
- Check a device:
chrome://policy> Reload policies > ExtensionSettings shows OK. - To remove later: Block, uninstall from Chrome. Users cannot remove a force-installed extension.
Recommended settings
- Start with staff. Talk to us before you deploy to students, and always before students under 13.
- Sensitive sites: add your SIS, gradebook and testing sites under the extension's Permissions and URL access > Blocked hosts. This stops the text expander and page widget there. It does not stop clipboard history, which reads the system clipboard.
- Cloud sync (optional, Pro): off until a user signs in with Google. To prevent it, block the app in Security > Access and data control > API controls > Manage App Access. Block client IDs

clipboardReadandclipboardWritefor this extension. It cannot work without them. - Ephemeral devices: if local user data is erased at sign-out, the history is erased too.
Data handling
- On the device: clipboard items, favorites, tags, text shortcuts, settings. We cannot see them.
- Our cloud (opt-in only): items a signed-in Pro user syncs, plus the Google name, email and photo used to sign in. Stored in Firebase (Google Cloud). Not end-to-end encrypted.
- Analytics (Google Analytics 4): random install ID and usage events. No clipboard text, URLs, names or emails.
- Error reports (Sentry): technical details. May include an item title, tags or a search word. Never full clipboard text.
- No third-party ads. No sale of data. The extension shows Pro upgrade prompts.
